Midterm Paper: Animation vs Art
As we’ve begun surveying various art forms produced in black and white, it becomes clear that many artists throughout history have given careful and deliberate attention to certain details in these works, in ways that sometimes differ from art made with a more varied color palette. The motives and intentions behind these artistic choices have varied greatly, though there may still be certain commonalities among many of these choices
For your midterm assignment, please write a 4-page paper that supports the ideas in the above paragraph. It must be double-spaced, 12 pt. font, and typed—not handwritten.
Formulate a thesis or main idea for your paper in your opening paragraph, and support your thesis in the rest of the paper. You may discuss specific works we’ve reviewed in class, but also feel free to reference other works you know of or choose to research for this paper.
Visual Literacy: Throughout history, what are some of the ways artists and creative people have made images so that they can be visually ‘read’ well in a forced black and white medium, and, what are some of the ways artists have deliberately used a monochromatic palette to create effective or attractive B&W imagery?
