SCENARIO

Your day started off like any other until you got the call you’ve always dreaded: there’s a report that shots are being fired at your local middle school. The first news is that there are fatalities and panicked children are calling their parents, who are now showing up at the school in addition to the local media hounds.

Your task as a first responder is to develop a crisis intervention plan to determine the cause of the shooting, deal with the media and the parents, and stop the violence before more students get killed or injured.

You may agree or disagree with the authors, but either way you must support your argument with reliable material from the sources that you’ve been given.

In addition to the above approved Internet sources, you may also include your own ideas and experience as well. Many people have had some life experience in this area.

ORGANIZATION

The components of your research paper will include a title page, the body of your paper, and a reference page on which you list all the sources you’ve used to write your paper. Use APA style throughout your paper, including all formatting and citation. For additional information on APA citation format refer to the virtual library or go to https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/664/01/

In addition to a title page, your paper should include the following:

Introduction
Body (contains 3–4 paragraphs)
Conclusion
Writing Guidelines:
Type your submission, double-spaced, in a standard print font, size 12. Use a standard document format with 1-inch margins. (Don’t use any fancy or cursive fonts.)
Include a title sheet with the the following information at the top of your paper:
Name and complete mailing address
Student number
Course title and number (Crisis Intervention, J08V)
Project 1
Read the assignment carefully and cover all questions asked fully.
Be specific. Limit your submission to the topic and the specific issues mentioned.
Include a reference page in APA style on which you list books, journals, websites, and all references (from the list given) used in preparing the submission.
Proofread your work carefully. Check for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
Plagiarism

To avoid plagiarism, summarize or paraphrase what you’ve read, or use direct quotes for the material you use in your paper. All material that’s not your own must be cited, especially direct quotes. Their sources must be listed on the reference page.

Remember, plagiarism is a serious offense. If any part of your paper is copied or reproduced from a source you haven’t cited, you may receive a failing grade on the paper and in some cases a failing grade for the course. See the Student Handbook for more information on plagiarism.
