(Access film through FIU Library to Stream Online)
Question: UNODC notes that “human trafficking affects every country of the world, as countries of origin, transit or destination – or even a combination of all. Trafficking often occurs from less developed countries to more developed countries, where people are rendered vulnerable to trafficking by virtue of poverty, conflict or other conditions.” What are the root human insecurity causes for why people are trafficked from urban and rural areas, online, and refugee camps and how has this affected your country of concern? Make sure you discuss in detail the root causes and the effects on your country of concern.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Please review the important information about the assignments.

Students will post seven critical responses that examine (between 3-4 pages, this does not include the reference page) of the question outlined below. The critical analysis includes students’ personal reaction to the weekly lecture film(s), analyze the environmental context of a specific country of concern. Within the analysis, students will integrate the assumptions and/or create counterarguments to specific assumptions from one of the required readings from the week the assignment is due. In addition, students will correlate (compare or contrast) central points brought forth in the film to the analysis of their country of concern.

The goal of this assignment is: 1) To develop critical thinking and analytical skills by critiquing the arguments presented in the course literature and film; 2) To identify flaws in a given argument, concept, model, theory or paradigm; 3) evaluate the central points discussed in the film and lecture as a means to investigate its association to the selected reading and a specific country of concern and 4) to spark reflections on your personal assumptions.

Frame your mindset: for this assignment consider yourself a scholar/movie critique who is applying, comparing, and contrasting what is brought forth in the film, lecture, and one of the reading to the realities of a specific country of concern throughout this semester. Facts, not Conjectures.

This assignment requires students to:

First, analyze your chosen country of concern (submitted in the PRE-REFLECTION assignment) throughout the semester in seven critical responses.
You are only allowed to analyze one country throughout the semester, no exceptions.
Second, the submissions must discuss your personal reaction (thoughts, impressions, etc.) to the film(s) (in some instances there are two required CA films) and the recorded lecture in respect to the specific weekly topic. (1 paragraph)
Basically, you are providing your initial thoughts of the film and the recorded lecture regarding the weekly topic…broad not specific.
Third, students will discuss the complexities of the topic for the designated reflection and answer the question outlined within the prompt.
Within the submission, students must identify, compare, and contrast specific two assumptions of one of the required readings and central points brought forth in the film(s) to the realities (facts) of your chosen country of concern. (4-5 paragraphs)
Simply put, when answering the question outlined in the prompt integrate the assumptions from one of the required readings and the central points of the film when analyzing the dynamics of your specific country of concern.
You can show how the two assumptions brought forth from the reading and/or the central points in the film reflect similarly to your country of concern.
You can create counter-arguments that illustrate the limitations (problems, weakness) of the assumptions in the reading and/or central points in the film when comparing to your country of concern.
Facts, not Conjectures – see resource links
No, you can not integrate more than one reading.
Answer the question in entirety

The grading point value is 11 points.

the degree to which the student provides their personal reaction to the recorded lecture and video; – 1 point
the degree to which the student comprehends identifies, compares, and contrasts two assumptions found in one of required reading and video(s) when correlating to the environmental context of their chosen country of concern; and – 7 points
the degree to which the student illustrates insightfulness and originality of comments about the complexities of their country of concern.- 3 points
Deduction: Incorrect citation, no citation, grammar errors, lack of clarity, etc.- maximum deduction of 2 points

Submissions must be between 3 – 4 pages (this does not include the reference page).
